Featherston Foodbank
***
Our Mission is to provide parcels of food and donated goods to people/families in need in the Featherston area, collaborating with a range of community services and individuals to ensure no food is wasted, and residents are as food secure as possible.
People are also referred to other community support organisations wherever additional assistance may be required.
History: - The original foodbank started with donated goods in a simple cupboard at Family Works Featherston in 2006. It grew and expanded rapidly. Around 2009 Rotary came on board with an annual food drive which is coordinated with the help from local volunteers.
South Wairarapa Foodbank Collective was set up to manage the foodbank in August 2019. The food bank provides emergency food parcels free to families and individuals. The name changed in April 2020 to reduce confusion. Martinborough has also opened their foodbank. We have also become part of the Featherston's Own Charitable Trust.
How we operate:- The Featherston Food Bank is coordinated and run by volunteers.
Donations come from individuals, collection points in some local spaces including the supermarket and the annual door-to-door Rotary coordinated drive plus regular funding from Featherston’s Own Charitable Trust.
